Statement of intent

My practise as a visual communicator lies predominantly in photography. During level two my “penny dropped” and I came to the conclusion that photography was A medium I felt comfortable in and was succeeding and enjoying the most. In year two I worked with the Young Designers programme in which I documented the journey of a design team and their client. Furthermore I explored photography through reportage, documenting and black and white traditional photography.

In year three I expect to delve into other areas of photography which I lack experience and confidence in. My main aim is to become confident using the studio; using different lights and cameras. As a result of this I should become more confident with portraiture photography and product photography etc. Other than concentrating on studio photography I want to carry on doing documentary photography. By achieving all this my portfolio should be more versatile and professional. In terms of collaboration I want to work with Christine Tarry, A graphic design and photography student at Camberwell university producing a book of photographs.

Photography as well as on my course is an interest an activity I participate in outside of college. Outside of college I work as an event photographer with Faces in Places photographing the public in nightclubs. Something I also have an interest in is moving image, films in particular. My favourite directors are Quinton Tarantino and Guillermo Del Toro. Furthermore I have an interest in documentaries and short films.

Beyond level three I want to start my career working as a photographer’s assistant. This would give me good contacts and a chance to learn from a more experienced photographer whilst earning a initial salary. Whilst gaining experience I could do freelance work to build myself as a practitioner.

In terms of skills I feel I could benefit in terms of technical photography, especially in the studio, however conceptually and aesthetically I feel I can produce an engaging photograph.
